To
make the transition from
winter skin to spring skin you’ll
want to lighten up your products. The cold weather lent
itself to heavier creams but in the spring weather is warmer
and a fluid moisturizer is better. Spring is a good time
to slough away dead skin cells accumulated during the winter
months. If your skin is sensitive look for an enzyme peel
as enzymes tenderize and digest the excess cellular debris.
For oily skin an alpha hydroxy (AHA) peel is ideal. The
AHA’s are weak acids that melt away the cellular debris.
On thicker skin, a granule peel with either finely crushed
almonds or walnuts work well. A spa Microdermabrasion Treatment
is good for all skin types with a skilled esthetician or
nurse. Ask for a diamond tip Microdermabrasion as it does
not use abrasive crystals and is very safe and effective.
This treatment can work on acne scars as well.

Spring
is also a time for cleansing. Nourishing
the cells from the inside out is important. During the winter
months mucous forms in the body as we instinctively eat
more fats and meats to keep the body warm. The body naturally
cleanses itself through foods that are intrinsic to the
season. Joyce Gibney, ISS resident nutritional counselor,
recommends eating lighter fare, proteins that come from
fish, chicken or nuts, and lots of spring greens. Some of
nature’s detoxifiers like Chlorophyll, Minerals and
Magnesium can be found in greens. Joyce suggest you eat
a variety such as dandelion, arugula, watercress and dark
leafy lettuces. Berries are in season too and they have
many anti-oxidants. Add strawberries to your salads to make
it interesting and tasty.
Herbs
help the body digest better and this season look for mint.
Herbal teas are another way to get nutrients in to the body.
Mint teas are refreshing when served cool and mix well with
fruit teas. This helps to hydrate the body during the day..

With
the beautiful blossoming flowers, pollen is heavy and for
some, allergies occur. If you see that your
eyes are puffy then switch from an eye cream
to an eye gel. I recommend keeping
the eye gel in the refrigerator and for an instant de-puffing
treatment, put a teaspoon I the freezer for two one minute.
Apply your eye gel under the eye and on top of the gel,
gently massage using the tip of the cool teaspoon the under
eye area for a minute on both sides. You will see a difference
right away. Another way to diminish facial puffiness is
to run cold tap water and splash your face- a few cold splashes
does wonders!
